Does What It Says It Will Do & More
This application does exactly what it says it will do quickly and efficiently. It is very intuitive to use. It is much easier to use this app than to plow thorugh the modem’s status pages to view what devices are on the network. You can even ‘open’ a discovered device on your computer. The app quickly puts you back in control of your network.
The application found a ‘squatter’ on my network. This made is really easy to find out why my conenction was suddenly very slow. A quick trip to the modem’s configuration pages solved the problem. IP Scanner then was able to confirm that only proper devices were on the network.
I accidentally found a very helpful bonus of using this app:
I can instantly get to & adjust my network connected scan-FAX-printers status, settings, fax numbers and more by using IP Scanner to open the device.
From the manufacturer’s (Brother) applicaitons, the printer settings, FAX and speed dial & status monitors are very, very difficult to access, requiring opening of various programs & sub-programs. Some settings, like network settings, FAX & speed dial, can only be manipulated on the machine’s control panel via many, many sub-menus. Changing something is quite tedious using Brother’s apps & settings.
With ths IP Scanner app, I can open the “Discovered Device” (printer) and instantly am connected to every single setting and status screen for my printer. This very nice & consolodated page is not normally accessible from OS X. I have only seen it once when Brother tech support remotely logged into my printer to fix something. Using IP Scanner to get to this page means no more opening dozens of apps & sub-apps or paging through many, many sub-menus on the device control panel just to change a setting. This is spiffy!
Also note that if your Discovered Device will not open in the browser window, this is most likely because the device’s firewall(s) is doing its job.
I like this app very much.
